1977 “The Spirit of Man and Horse” - Jacques Seligmann Gallery, New York, NY

“Unafraid of feeling, undismayed by the rawness and power of living energy, this artist [Gustav Rehberger] has had the courage to pursue truth in form, and the mastery to make line and gesture living things. Firmly and unmistakably versed in the tradition of the masters of past ages, Rehberger has managed to go on to achieve his own unique and turbulent level of seeing and mastery of technique, which while continuing its faithfulness to living line and truthfulness of image somehow transcends the confines of the very reality it depicts, and in the process allows us the privilege of seeing energy coalescing into the color and texture and form we call life.” Read the entire Jacques Seligmann Gallery Press Release

1953 “Metal at Work” - Hampshire House, New York, NY

Ernest Jarvis, President of Continental Copper & Steel Industries, Inc. commissioned Rehberger to create a series of illustrations to embody the experience of the seven divisions of Continental. The one-man show titled "Metal at Work" was hosted at the Hampshire House in New York City.

Opening night at the Hampshire House on January 21, 1953, was a star studded affair with Dagmar, an American actress, model and television personality who rose to prominence in the 1950's, served as co-host along with Continental President Ernest Jarvis.

From the brochure...."Rehberger was commissioned to do 'Metal at Work' because it was felt that he could best interpret these situations with the vigor and drama that would make them come alive, and lift them above the level of straight industrial illustration.  We believe he has captured the humanity of industry's role in American life with great imagination and power."
